Office Joke - Penguin Felt Mask

It's silly, I know, but sometimes you see something that you just know will be funny and you just have to run with it. My co-worker has a Far Side desk calendar that we check daily....on my desk, I have Dilbert and a Spanish Phrase a Day. So anywho, Tuesday (we had Monday off...yippee!) we check the Far Side for the weekend and see the most hilarious cartoon:

Being crafty, you know what I had to do...
It's
kinda
dorky
I
know
but
I
couldn't
resist
lol

It's not the best craftsmanship, but for all I knew, the guys at work would throw it around or simply toss it. The mask is made with felt and embroidery floss and I even added fusible interfacing to the inside of the beak to keep it firm and prevent it from flopping over too much. I actually looked at the cartoon when I was putting the mask together so I could come as close to the drawing as possible...it's not exact, but I think it's kinda cute!

I left the mask on my co-worker's desk with the original Far Side cartoon I used to design my penguin mask. My co-workers thought it was hilarious, and the mask is still hanging out in the office...don't worry...some of the guys did actually put it on...too funny!

Hmmmm....what could all this pretty fabric be for?

Hmmm...I wonder...

My Weekend Project - Shabby Chic Style

I've been looking for a printer stand for awhile...not necessarily a true printer stand, but anything furniture-wise that I could put a printer on. Right now, it's propped on some plastic drawers, but the top of one is caving under the weight of the printer, so...you get the point.

So, as soon as I saw this dresser at the Salvation Army, I saw the potential in it to become my printer stand...with some nice paint, scrapbook paper, and decoupage.

Here's, basically, what it looked like before:

I had already taken off the knob (see below) and 3 little colored domes that are fit just above the drawer (you can kinda see where they used to be by the indentations)

Not so cute knob...it's ok, just not my thing

Same thing w/ the feet

All sanded and primed now! Ready for some pretty paint!

All painted up...still not thaaaat cute

Ah...now we're getting somewhere! I used some pretty, floral scrapbook paper to do a decoupaged finish to the top of the nightstand and the front of the drawer...it's far from perfect, but I love it! Now, all I need is a new knob...hmm...

That's when I run into this...argh! Who knew a store could have so many!? I went with a cheap acrylic one...it's just for me and for a $10 difference, it doesn't matter too much...I still found the look I was going for.

All done! Yay!

But...now, do I really want to stick a stinky ole' computer on top of my super cute handiwork? Decisions, decisions...any ideas?

I'm Not Just a Jewelry Designer

I'm crafty too! I like to make all kinds of artsy creations - from paper crafts to paintings to decoupaged miscellany...whatever. My latest guilty pleasure has been the DIY network, especially on the weekends or if you're lucky enough to be at home on a vacation day, the weekday/midday hours. This is when the Carol Duvall show, Creative Juice, and other cool crafty shows are aired. Normally, I like to make only my own, original ideas, but since I'm sorta regaining my true inner artist, I figure it wouldn't hurt to try out a few activities that looked interesting.

I saw this fab project on Creative Juice a couple weeks ago, and thought it would be a perfect present for a certain little girl who cannot be named right now as I haven't given it to her.

Here's another shot in the sunlight, so you can see all the pretty little rhinestones which add some bling to the design:

The slowly setting sun offered up just enough light to showcase the flowered letter's bling-a-ling. :)

As I'm completely obsessed with all things floral, this project totally caught my eye! It took a lot longer than they made it look like it did on the show, but it was well worth the effort!

Has anyone else made any crafts from DIY or HGTV?
